Venice: love or hate?

Depending on who you talk to, the city of Venice can be a lovely and romantic place where to enjoy a weekend with the person you love, or a trashy and smelly place full of tourists who always complain about the bad and expensive food.

Actually, both of these definitions are right, since you can love or hate this place. There is no “I like but…”: if you do it, you appreciate the city as it is; if you don’t it’s because you can’t stand anything.

Venice can be your favorite because of:

1- St. Mark’s Basilica, the Byzantine masterpiece considered the main symbol of the place, where you can take a picture before visiting the inside

2- The gondolas, a must do thing while you are there, especially if you are with your sweetheart and if you want to impress your friends

3- The very famous Carnival, which make us dreaming about the great and wonderful dresses we are able to see in movies.

4- You can’t get really lost: if it happens, or if you don’t know exactly where you are, just ask directions to go to St. Mark’s Square and you will be able to find your way again

5- The Venice International Film Festival (Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica della Biennale di Venezia), founded in 1932. It is known world-wide and it continues to be prestigious, having some many international stars as guests.

You can’t stand the city because:

1- During summer the canals smell very bad

2- The space is limited, and there is always a huge crowd of people in every place you are at.

3- Pigeons! Yes, there are a lot of them, especially if you feed them. Most of the tourists feed them just to take a picture, but of course they don’t think about the number of birds who arrives in the nearby.
